Breakfast for Mom

In less than six months, a total of thirty-three Franklin and Clinton County 4-H Youth will be embarking on the Wonders of Washington (WOW) trip. On Wednesday, October 21st, the 4-H youth and their chaperones will board a contracted coach and will travel to the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland which will be their home away from home for the next three days.

On Thursday, October 22nd and Friday, October 23rd, the youth will be visiting and touring many significant memorials and museums in the greater Washington, D.C. area that will include but not limited to Arlington National Cemetery, the monuments of Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Vietnam and many more. For a significant amount of time, the youth will have the opportunity to visit various sections the Smithsonian Museum that will include Air & Space, the Native American; the Sackler & Freer Galleries, the National Museum and the National Zoo. An evening night tour is planned.

A kick-off fund raising campaign was held in February on the celebrated day of President Washington’s Birthday. Then, the 4-H WOW group hosted spaghetti dinner. Since this time there has been an array of fund raising efforts that have included bottle drive, the annual 4-H Pancake Supper and several area business and individuals who have made donation to 4-H WOW group to help reduce the over-all fee per individual of $800.

Currently, with the “bug-season” just around the corner, the 4-H WOW group are conducting sales for Avon Bug Repellant, Bug Repellant w/Sunscreen, Sunscreen and After Bite. A local 4-H Leader and Avon Representative Donna Sorrell has agreed to give 100% profit to the 4-H WOW group.

In addition, on Sunday, May 10th the 4-H WOW group will be hosting a Booster for WOW- Breakfast for Mom at the Fort Covington American Legion Post. Serving will begin at 9am until 1pm. Scrambled Eggs, Pancakes, Ham, Home Fries, Milk, Coffee and Juice, and real maple syrup will be on the menu. The price will be as follows: $8 for adults; $5 for youth 5-10 years of age; and Free for under 5.
